Zondagmiddag 4 september brengt het muziekgezelschap SweetPotato traditionele en populaire Chinese muziek en liederen ten gehore in de bblthk. Daarbij bespelen zij diverse, voor velen onbekende, traditionele Chinese muziekinstrumenten en de vleugel. Dit bijzondere concert begint om 15.00 uur. Toegang: gratis. Donatie is welkom.

In 2013 heeft Shuhang Wang SweetPotato opgericht samen met andere Chinese studenten in Wageningen, die via traditionele en moderne volksmuziek de nationale cultuur uitdragen in Wageningen en omgeving. De groep bestaat nu uit: Fan Yang (op Guzheng, een soort citer), Huizhi Lin (Bamboefluit), Zhilei (Pipa, een Chinese luit), Shuhang Wang (zang), Yuqing Liu en Lingyi Liu (Er-Hu) en Beihong Yang (percussie, pianist)

Voorafgaand aan de uitvoering van een muziekstuk geven zij het publiek, uitleg over de muziek en de te bespelen instrumenten.

SweetPotato from Wageningen is a traditional Chinese music group of semi-professional and professional musicians. After several years performing Chinese folk songs in different occasions in the Netherlands, Shuhang Wang initiated this music group in 2013. Initially all the musicials were Chinese students of the WUR. Thought time the group has re-shape and members are from all over the Netherlands. The name of the group comes from the “Sweet Potato Porridge”- a typical Chinese family cuisine - served for dinner at the first gathering of the group. SweetPotato aims to introduce live traditional Chinese music to Dutch and international environments. Using traditional Chinese instruments - guzheng, er-hu, dizi (bamboo flute), pipa, sheng, hulusi, qin, bawu, together with piano and vocal, musicians perform in the forms of solo, duet, trio, quartet and ensemble. Their music ranges from classical Chinese pieces,  folk songs with modern arrangement to popular songs with typical Chinese elements. From Wageningen to the whole Netherlands, the group has given over 40 concerts and has participated in various festivals.
