During this evening, there will be a presentation by Huda Odeh on the history of the performing arts in Historic Palestine. Over the past 100 years, this history has significantly influenced the cultural expression and identity of Palestine.**

Huda is a Palestinian living in Wageningen since September 2020. Born in Nablus, Palestine, she is a cultural activist and professional with over 25 years of experience in the Palestinian performing arts sector, notably in research, programs’ management, and resource mobilization.

The performing arts in Palestine remain vibrant and dynamic, encompassing theater, dance, music, and circus. Culture and art, including the performing arts, are deeply intertwined with the political history and socio-economic developments of the seven million people living in Palestine and the seven million Palestinians in the diaspora, spanning from West Asia and Europe to the US and Chile. For Palestinians, these performances serve both as an expression of their identity and as a tool of resistance against oppression.

This event is the second in a two-part series. The first evening of this series will take place on Thursday, May 23.

Tijdens deze thema-avond zal een presentatie worden gegeven over de geschiedenis van de podiumkunsten in Historisch Palestina. Deze geschiedenis over de laatste 100 jaar heeft een belangrijke invloed gehad en nog steeds op Palestina’s culturele expressie en identiteit.

De podiumkunsten in Palestina zijn nog steeds zeer levendig en dynamisch, zowel in toneel, dans, muziek en circus. Cultuur en kunst, en ook de podiumkunsten zijn onlosmakelijk verweven met de politieke geschiedenis en sociaaleconomische ontwikkelingen voor de zeven miljoen mensen in Palestina zelf en de zeven miljoen andere Palestijnen in de diaspora, van West Azie, via Europa tot in de USA en Chili. Deze podiumkusten zijn voor Palestijnen zowel een uitdrukking van hun identiteit als een wapen in het verzet tegen onderdrukking.
